Kolkata Rape-Murder: Supreme Court Takes Suo-Moto Cognisance, Hearing On Tuesday

Indiaโ€™s Supreme Court has taken suo-moto cognisance of the alleged rape and murder involving a trainee doctor in Kolkata. A three-judge bench led by Chief Justice DY Chandrachud, Justices JB Pardiwala and Manoj Misra will hear the matter on Tuesday.

The chief of National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) raised concerns over the curriculum in Biharโ€™s government-funded madrasas. Priyank Kanoongo said in a social media post that certain books, including โ€œTalimul Islam,โ€ are being used in these institutions, which allegedly label non-Islamic individuals as โ€œKafirsโ€ (infidels). He also raised questions over the reported enrollment of Hindu children in these madrasas.
