On Wednesday, the Delhi High Court refused to allow Chhath Puja devotees to pray on the Yamuna river bank in Geeta Colony.
The High Court expressed concern regarding the high pollution level in the river.
“It will be very harmful to you. The truth is that the river is so contaminated that there is a chance that a person could suffer harm if they dip in it. We cannot allow that,” said a bench consisting of Justice Tushar Rao Gedela and Chief Justice Manmohan. The judges noted that the river was extremely contaminated.
This ruling court comes even as thick toxic foam has been seen floating on the Yamuna River in Kalindi Kunj.
