FIR against BJP MP Tejasvi Surya for โ€˜False Claimโ€™ linked to farmers death

BJP MP Tejasvi Surya and editors of two Kannada news portals have been booked for spreading false information that a farmerโ€™s death was connected to a Waqf land dispute.

A farmer named Rudrappa Channappa Balikai in Karnatakaโ€™s Haveri district allegedly committed suicide after his land was โ€œtaken overโ€ by the Waqf board, according to a post on X posted by Tejasvi Surya that has since been deleted.

Additionally, Surya accused Minister BZ Zameer Ahmed Khan and Chief Minister Siddaramaiah of creating โ€œcatastrophic effectsโ€ that are distressing the stateโ€™s farmers.

Tejal Verma

On Thursday evening, Village Defence Group (VDG) members in Jammu and Kashmirโ€™s Kishtwar district were kidnapped and killed by the terrorists. An offshoot of the Jaish-e-Mohammad terrorist organisation called the โ€œKashmir Tigersโ€ claimed responsibility for the attack. The terror group shared the images of the victimโ€™s bodies with eyes blindfolded.

The villagers were identified as Nazir Ahmed and Kuldeep Kumar; both were residents of Ohli Kuntwara village. The bodies are yet to be recovered.

A massive search operation has been launched by the police to find the bodies.

According to the officials, both Nazir and Kuldeep went to graze their cattle in the forest when the terrorists kidnapped them.

โ€œWe have received information that my brother and Ahmad were abducted and killed by terrorists,โ€ Kuldeepโ€™s brother Prithvi told the news agency PTI. As per their routine, the village defence guards (VDGs) had gone to graze cattle, as usual.โ€
