โ€œStubble Burning Not The Only Cause For Air Pollutionโ€: AAP MP Raghav Chadha

The Parliament resumed its normal functioning on Tuesday after days of disruption over sloganeering from the oppositionโ€™s demand over discussion over the Adani bribery allegations.

Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Rajya Sabha MP Raghav Chadha on Tuesday raised the issue of Delhi air pollution in Parliament, stating that Stubble burning is not the only reason for the poor air quality index (AQI) in Delhi.
โ€œBurning Stubble is a compulsion for farmers. However, Stubble burning is not the only cause of air pollution,โ€ the AAP MP cited an IIT study.

Mr Chadha further said, addressing the house, that they should talk about โ€œAQIโ€ (Air Quality Index) and not โ€œAIโ€ (Artificial Intelligence) โ€“ a topic the Centre has been discussing to counter digital fraud threats. โ€œWe talk about AI but if we want to get rid of pollution, then we will have to talk about AQI,โ€ Mr Chaddha said.

The 36-year-old AAP leader said the central and state governments should help the farmers with wages to buy anti-pollution equipment like โ€˜happy seederโ€™ or โ€˜paddy chopperโ€™.

Suggesting a โ€œshort-term solutionโ€, Mr Chadha said that Punjab and Haryana farmers should be provided with financial aid of  โ‚น 2,500 per acre โ€“ โ‚น 2,000 from the Centre and โ‚น 500 from the Punjab government.
