Pakistan Calls On India To Reconsider Indus Treaty Suspension

Pakistan Calls On India

Calling it unilateral and a violation of the terms of the pact, they sent an official letter to New Delhi

Pakistan urged India to reconsider its decision to hold back the Indus Waters Treaty. Calling it unilateral and a violation of the terms of the pact, they sent an official letter to New Delhi.

It is not known whether the letter which Pakistan sent was before or after Operation Sindoor, which was on May 7.

This was some time after India’s Cabinet Committee on Security decided to take a number of measures against Pakistan after the attack on Pahalgam on April 22.

In an official letter, Jal Shakti ministry secretary, Debashree Mukherjee had told Pakistan about these measures which India implemented. The Minister for water resources in Pakistan, Syed Ali Murtaza received the letter on April 24.

Murtaza sent an official response about Pakistan’s position, the people cited said was on condition of anonymity.

Murtaza stated that Pakistan considers India’s decision to suspend the treaty is unilateral. Pakistan’s response stated that the suspension of the pact violates the given terms. It also stated that the terms do not allow exit of any of the parties from the agreement.

Pakistan also urged India to reconsider what impact this suspension of the treaty would be on them. The response also stated that the withdrawal of the pact would cause repercussions for Pakistan’s economy. This is so as the nation is heavily dependent on agriculture.

India has not replied to any of these responses from Pakistan on the suspension of the treaty. It has just stayed with its stand to keep these measures in place, despite the ceasefire, on May 10.

Officials from India have said that they are not going to reconsider on the decisions they took due to the backing of cross-border terrorism by Pakistan. Since the signing of the Indus Waters Treaty, over three wars and over six decades have passed

SC Slams BJP Minister

Chief Justice of India said that a person holding constitutional office should act responsibly

Supreme Court Opposes BJP’s Kunal Shah’s Remarks

On Thursday, the Supreme Court criticized BJP Minister Kunwar Vijay Shah for the remarks he made about Colonel. Sofiya Qureshi. The Top Court also did not intervene in the FIR, which was filed against the Minister.

This comes shortly after the Madhya Pradesh High Court ordered the filing of an FIR against Vijay Shah for giving “hate speech”. The minister then approached the court for relief after the case was filed against him.

Shah has sought to stay on the High Court order in relation to his statement on the basis that what he said was “misinterpreted”.

When the matter was brought forth, Chief Justice of India, BR Gavai, who was heading the bench said, “A person holding constitutional office is expected to act responsibly. What kind of statements is he making? Is it appropriate for a minister to make such statements?”

Kunwar Vijay Shah’s Counsel Defends Him

Kunwar Shah’s consel said that his statements were hyped and presented wrongly by the media.

“He has expressed remorse, and his statements have been misunderstood,” the counsel said.

“Nothing will happen to you in a day. You know who you are,” said the Supreme Court, rejecting his plea.

The Supreme Court has agreed to hear the plea brought forth by Shah on Friday.

Shah, who is the tribal Welfare Minister of Madhya Pradesh made a statement about Colonel. Qureshi shortly after the ceasefire, which was held between both countries.

He said, “They [terrorists] made our sisters widows, so Modi ji sent a sister of their community to strip them and teach them a lesson.”

“They undressed our Hindu brothers before killing them. We responded by sending their own sister to hit them in their houses,” he added.

Meanwhile Congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge said that Shah’s comments were “shameful” and “communal” and he called on the Prime Minister to act
