The local body elections in Dadra and Nagar Haveli were held on 5 November 2025, and the outcome has drawn sharp reactions. The results were almost entirely one sided. Congress leaders say most of their nomination forms were rejected during scrutiny, and they point out that the venue for scrutiny was changed without proper notice. They believe this tilted the field before the campaign even began.
The administration insists that the rules were followed, but the numbers speak for themselves. Out of 122 seats across the Union Territory, BJP candidates won 91 seats without a contest. That is three out of every four seats decided by default. Finally, The BJP won a combined total of 107 out of 122 seats across all municipal councils, district and gram panchayats in the UT.
When an election sees such a large number of uncontested wins, it is natural for people to question whether the process gave every candidate a fair chance. There is still no court ruling or independent report that proves the election was manipulated, but the circumstances raise serious concerns about transparency and equal opportunity.
A credible democracy is built on trust in the process, not just the final result. The events in Dadra and Nagar Haveli deserve a closer and impartial review so that confidence in the system remains intact.
