Chari was among 11 people selected from 18,000 applicants for NASA’s Artemis program in August 2017. He completed two years of basic astronaut training on Friday and is now ready for NASA’s International Space Station, Moon and Mars missions.

According to NASA tradition, Chari received a silver pen

He was given a silver pen with all 11 graduates at the event held at the Johnson Space Center on Friday. According to NASA’s tradition, they will have to swap this pen with other astronauts once they go into space. The tradition began in 1959 with 7 astronauts selected for the Mercury mission. NASA administrator Jim Bridenstine said that they are America’s best astronaut. This is an invaluable time for them to join our Astronaut Corps.

I got the value of education from my father: Chari

Chari’s father moved to the US from Hyderabad. Chari said that he got the value of education from Father Srinivasa V Chari. “My Father believed that going to school and getting an education in India is not the right feature. This was a matter that was largely applicable to my family. So we never refused to go to school. I know how much our father had to sacrifice to give us schooling. I think that was probably the biggest difference between us and others,” he said.
