Punjab: According to NDTV sources, Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh has reportedly told Sonia Gandhi he “can’t continue in the party with this kind of humiliation”, sources said. Amid his resignation, the chief minister’s officer said that he has not been asked to step down.
NDTV sources said that Congress is under constant pressure from the Punjab legislators to replace Amarinder Singh but he is not ready to resign. The Congress, in a late night tweet, announced the emergency meeting citing “a representation from a large number of MLAs”.

Meeting today evening
Punjab in-charge Harish Rawat, who posted the tweet, also tagged Rahul Gandhi, Amarinder Singh and Punjab Congress chief Navjot Singh Sidhu, who retweeted the announcement.
This comes a day after at least 40 legislators wrote to Congress president Sonia Gandhi, seeking a CLP meeting to chalk out a strategy for the Punjab polls in 2022 amid ongoing tussle between Amarinder and Sidhu. The leaders had shot off a letter apparently against Captain, alleging that hardly anything was being done towards fulfilment of the 18-point programme issued by the party high command.
The meeting, just days after the party brokered a tenuous detente between Amarinder Singh and his in-house rival Navjot Singh Sidhu, signaled a leadership change in the Punjab Congress government months before state polls.
