Talks With China Positive and Cordial: Army Says After 2nd Round of Military-Level Talks

The Militar-level talks between Indian and Chinese Army began at 11.30 AM at Moldo on the Chinese side of the Chushul sector. The meeting went on till late at night.

 

Leh| In an official statement the Indian army said that the military-level talks between India and China were “Positive and Cordial”. The marathon talks between the two sides came almost a week after the deadly clashes at Galwan valley in which 20 Indian soldiers were martyred. The Lt-General level talks were aimed at diffusing the tensions along Line of Actual Control. While the Indian delegation was led by 14 Corps Commander Lt Gen Harinder Singh, on the other hand, the Chinese delegation was headed by the Commander of the Tibet Military District.

The meeting began at 11.30 AM at Moldo on the Chinese side of the Chushul sector. The meeting went on till late at night where the two sides discussed the modalities of the disengagement to avoid any clashes in future, reports said. A similar first round of meeting took place on June 6. After the talks, both the sides decided to disengage from the flashpoints and went back 2-2.5 KMs.

However, as per the people familiar with the development, Chinese soldiers came back and erected a camp near Galwan Valley which was dismantled by Indian troops. In the clashes that ensued, 20 Indian soldiers including a commanding officer were killed. As per Indian estimate, as many as 43 Chinese soldiers have also died or been injured. But no confirmed number was revealed by China.

As the second round of talks between India and China continued, Army chief general MM Naravane will visit Leh and review the preparedness. The Army has been allowed to use firearms in “Extraordinary” circumstances and has also been given Rs 500 Crores to purchase equipment.

Two days ago, IAF Chief RKS Baduria also visited the Leh Airbase to review the preparedness.
