Saudi Arabia: Eight convicted in Jamal Khashoggi murder, 5 awrded death sentence

Earlier, it was alleged that Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman was involved in the murder. However, the Crown Prince has denied the allegations.

 

Riyadh| The Saudi court has convicted eight people in the murder of Washington Post journalist Jamal Khashoggi. Five of them were sentenced to death. Three others have been given a total of 24 years in prison. On behalf of the Saudi government prosecution, it was reported that Khashoggi was killed by some people in Saudi. The case was prosecuted on 11 people. However, their names were not disclosed.

Khashoggi was a columnist for the American newspaper The Washington Post. He was last seen outside the Saudi Arabian embassy in Istanbul on October 2. He went there to get the necessary papers for his wedding. Turkey’s Sabah newspaper claimed that a hit team from Saudi Arabia pretended to take Jamal Khashoggi to Riyadh.

The Turkish government also investigated the embassy to find his body. However, the body of Khashoggi has not been recovered till date. One report claimed that after killing Khashoggi, members of the hit team put him in acid to destroy his body.

Saudi Prince was accused of being involved in the murder of Khashoggi

Earlier, Saudi officials have been refusing to be involved in the murder of Khashoggi. However, Turkish newspapers have been revealing the matter. In a report related to the United Nations massacre, Expert Agnes Calamard had said that based on the evidence related to the murder of Khashoggi, it could be said that Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman and his superiors were involved in the murder. He had talked about the investigation of Prince Salman in the case. However, the Crown Prince has denied the allegations levelled against him.

Prince Salman had taken moral responsibility for the murder

Recently, the US Public Broadcaster Service released a documentary on the murder of Khashoggi. On one occasion, Prince Salman says that he takes moral responsibility for killing Khashoggi because it happened under his supervision. However, experts say that Prince Salman’s statement was not a criminal responsibility but a moral responsibility. They want to maintain a good image internationally.
