Mumbai: Maharashtra CM-designate and ShivSena Supremo Uddhav Thackeray met Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari at Raj Bhavan here on Wednesday.

On Thursday Thackeray, to be sworn-in as CM of Maharashtra. The ShivSena chief will be the first from the Thackeray family to be sworn in as the chief minister.

The ShivSena, NCP, and Congress on Tuesday named Thackeray as their chief minister. The three parties have claimed support of 166 MLAs in the 288-member Maharashtra Assembly.

The stage is now set for Uddhav Thackeray to be sworn in as the new chief minister on Thursday.

Late Bal Thackeray, his father wielded the ‘remote control’ over the first Sena-BJP combine government during 1995-99 but never assumed a position in the government.

Uddhav Thackeray was nominated as the combined candidate of the ShivSena-NCP-Congress “Maharashtra Vikas Aghadi” at a joint meeting on Tuesday evening, following which the senior leaders of the three parties met Maharashtra Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari to stake a claim in government formation in the state.

The ShivSena-NCP-Congress leaders submitted letters of support from 166 MLAs to the Governor. The Maharashtra governor gave Uddhav Thackeray time till December 3 to submit the letters showing majority support in the Maharashtra assembly.

After Uddhav Thackeray becomes chief minister, he will have to contest the election in Maharashtra Assembly or the Legislative Council within six months.

Uddhav Thackeray has never contested an election and is not a member of either of the house of the state legislature.

His son Aaditya became the first member of the Thackeray family to contest an election when he won from the Worli assembly constituency with the thumping majority last month.

Uddhav Thackeray may choose to contest an election after getting one of the party’s MLAs to resign. His son Aaditya could also resign from the Worli seat to pave way for his father.

Sources also suggest that Uddhav Thackeray may contest from one of the strongholds of his party such as Dadar, Mahim, and Prabhadevi.

In the assembly elections, the BJP won 105 seats and ShivSena 56, while the Congress-NCP combine won 98 seats in the 288-member assembly.
