India registered over 3,500 COVID-19 related cases in 24 hours amid national lockdown alarming the governments across the country.
New Delhi| The total cases in India surged to 70,756 including over 21,000 cured/discharged or migrated and 2,293 deaths amid lockdown to curb the spread of COVID-19.
In the past 24 hours, 87 casualties were recorded.
A staggering 3,500 new cases of COVID-19 were recorded in the last 24 hours.
The total number of cases in Maharashtra– the worst affected state by the virus, moved past 23,000 with 868 deaths.
Mumbai, the financial capital of the country, figures climbed above 13,500.
Follows Gujarat with 8,541cases of highly infectious coronavirus, second highest in the country.
Tamil Nadu witnessed the sharpest hike in fresh cases this week. Nearly 800 people tested positive for COVID-19. Total cases in the state are 8,002.
Across the country, at least 21,000 patients have cured so far the recovery rate stood at 34%.
Currently, there are 46,008 active COVID-19 patients in the country
A total of 280 government laboratories in the country is conducting tests for the novel coronavirus, the Indian Council of Medical Research has said. ICMR also issued a list of 90 private labs which will conduct the testing.

Globally, the total number of COVID-19 cases topped 4,100,000 while the death toll crossed 285,000, as per the latest data from Johns Hopkins University.
