AIIMS Director Rushed To Gujarat As Covid-19 Situation Worsens In State

New Delhi| All Indian Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Director Dr. Randeep Guleria has been rushed to Ahmedabad in Gujarat to provide expert advice to doctors as the Covid-19 situation in the state is worsening with the large number of positive cases and deaths owing to the infectious virus.

Dr. Guleria, pulmonologist, and Dr. Manish Soneja from the AIIMS department of medicine, after the direction from the centre, left for Ahmedabad on a special flight of Indian Air Force on Friday evening, official sources informed.

“They will visit the Ahmedabad Civil Hospital and SVP hospital on Saturday to provide expert guidance and advice to the doctors on treatment for coronavirus-infected patients there,” Press Trust of India quoted an official source saying.

The total number of Covid-19 cases climbed to 7,403 and the death toll rose to 449 as Gujarat reported 390 more cases and 24 fatalities on Friday. Out of the 7,403 cases in the state, Ahmedabad has the highest number of Covid-19 infected patients with 1298 people testing positive for the virus, followed by Vadodara (188), Bhavnagar (32), and Rajkot (40).

According to the data uploaded on the website of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW) today morning, 59,662 cases of coronavirus have been reported across the country. Maharashtra tops the list of states with 19,063 cases followed by Gujarat with 7,402 cases, Delhi with 6,318, Tamilnadu with 6,0009. Rajasthan has so far reported 3,579 cases, Madhya Pradesh 3,341 and Uttar Pradesh 3,241.
