Several policemen, who were implementing lockdown to curb the spread of the virus, were attacked at Tikiapara in Howrah district, a red zone.
Howrah| The incident took place in the evening when policemen reached Tikiapara area a red zone after receiving inputs that a large number of people were crowding in a local market on the pretext of shopping, defying the lockdown and social distancing norms.
Later, a large police contingent, including RAF personnel, reached the spot to control the situation but even they were not spared by the locals.
The mob injured officials and forced the police personnel to retreat to the local outpost.
