According to an official statement from IGI Airport, the investigation has found the threat fake. However, as a precaution security has been beefed up.
Days before August 15, the terrorist organization Al-Qaeda has threatened to bomb Delhi’s IGI Airport, i.e. Indira Gandhi International Airport, after which the security agencies have been alerted. In fact, security at the Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGI) has been beefed up after Delhi Police received emails threatening to blow it up. In an email to Delhi Police, the militant group Al Qaeda warned of plans to attack IGI Airport.
According to an official statement from IGI Airport, the investigation has found the threat fake. The Bomb Threat Assessment Committee (BTAC) has since been recalled from the airport. “Even after the investigation did not find anything special, an additional alert has been issued and all security measures have been stepped up at IGI Airport,” the statement said.
Significantly, this threatening email came from email-ID [email protected]. The subject of this email read, “Conspiracy of bomb blast at IGI airport on behalf of Al Qaeda gangster.” According to the email, Karanbir Suri alias Mohammad Jalal and his wife Shaili Sharda alias Hasina are coming to India from Singapore on Sunday and they are plotting to plant a bomb at the airport in the next one to three days. Security has been beefed up at the airport following the threatening mail and all agencies have been kept on alert. Anti-sabotage checking has also been started at all the terminals of the airport. Incoming and outgoing trains are being checked and patrolling is also going on continuously.
