New Delhi| Congress interim president Sonia Gandhi today went to Tihar Jail to visit the jailed party leader DK Shivakumar. The Congressman from Karnataka-DK Shivakumar, who is also called the party’s troubleshooter, is in jail in a case of transactions and tax evasion through hawala. He was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate on 3 September. He is in judicial custody till 25 October.

DK Shivakumar’s brother- DK Suresh also accompanied Sonia Gandhi. After coming out, he informed the reporters that Congress president assured his brother of Party’s support and the party leaders stand in solidarity with him. He also said that Sonia Gandhi told him that he is not the only one and several other Congress leaders are being targetted. “We have to fight them and come out of this,” Gandhi said.
Karnataka Congress veteran DK Shivakumar is credited with forming the coalition government of Congress and JDS which fell in July this year. In September last year, the ED had registered a case against DK Shivakumar, Hanumanthaiah, an employee of Karnataka Bhavan and a few others.
