“Enough is enough. Hearing in this matter is going to be solved today,” Chief Justice of India Ranjan Gogoi said. Today is the 40th day of hearing the case.
New Delhi| Putting his foot down, Chief Justice of India Ranjan Gogoi sent a clear message to all the petitioners in the Ram Janmbhoomi-Babri Masjid title suit. He said that the hearing in the matter will conclude by 5 PM on Wednesday. The daily hearing in the Ayodhya dispute began on August 6 following the failure of mediation attempts. On Wednesday the daily hearing entered its 40th day. “Enough is enough. Hearing in this matter is going to be solved today,” CJI Ranjan Gogoi said.
Chief Justice of India (CJI) Ranjan Gogoi had earlier set the deadline for concluding the arguments by October 17. Reportedly, the CJI wants to pronounce a verdict in the case before his retirement in November this year. He even decided to cancel a multi-nation official foreign visit this month, apparently to make sure there is enough time to write the judgment.
On 18 October CJI Gogoi was set to fly out to Dubai before proceeding to Cairo, Brazil and New York to attend some programs. He was going to return to India on 31 October. The trip had been cleared by the Narendra Modi government last month.
Meanwhile, in the anticipation of the verdict, the UP government has imposed Section 144 in Ayodhya and has also beefed up the security. It has also prohibited TV channels from conducting public debate at the place in view of the impending security situation.
The constitution bench hearing the case comprises Justices S A Bobde, D Y Chandrachud, Ashok Bhushan and S Abdul Nazeer.
