‘Madhya Pradesh virus’ won’t enter Maharashtra, says Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Raut

One operation flopped 100 days ago. The Maha Vikas Aghadi did a bypass surgery and saved Maharashtra,” Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Raut said.

Mumbai| Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Raut on Wednesday expressed confidence that MVA government in Maharashtra is safe and said the “Madhya Pradesh virus” will not enter the western state.

Referring to the political crisis gripping the Congress government in Madhya Pradesh, Sena MP Sanjay Raut said that the Bharatiya Janata Party’s similar operation was prevented 100 days ago in Maharashtra. “At that time, the Maha Vikas Aghadi performed a ‘bypass operation’ and saved Maharashtra. Nothing to worry even now,” Raut pointed out.

The statement was against the backdrop of the 80-hours long two-man government of the then Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Deputy CM Ajit Pawar.

A couple of days after it collapsed as BJP was uncertain of proving its majority on the floor, the Shiv Sena-Nationalist Congress Party-Congress MVA alliance government was sworn-in with Sena’s Uddhav Thackeray as the chief minister on November 28 last year.

NCP national Spokesperson and Minority Affairs Minister Nawab Malik said that the MVA is “not interested in initiating the defections game” since it has ample numbers in the Maharashtra legislature.

The Kamal Nath government in neighbouring Madhya Pradesh is on the brink of collapse as 22 Congress MLAs in the state resigned on Tuesday after former Union minister Jyotiraditya Scindia quit the party and joined BJP.

The Shiv Sena is leading a coalition government in Maharashtra with the NCP and Congress and has a comfortable majority in the Assembly with 154 seats. Over the past three months, the coalition partners have often pulled in different directions owing to their ideological difference, but have so far held their ground.
