Pakistan-based terror module busted, 6 arrested: Delhi police

New Delhi : The special cell of the Delhi police special cell busted a Pakistan-based terror module and arrested six men on Tuesday. Among the six, two are claimed to be trained by Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI). Officials have also claimed that the intelligence agency was working with Dawood Ibrahim’s brother to plan attacks during the festival season in Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, and Maharashtra.

“Two of the accused, Osama and Zeeshan, got training this year in Pakistan and were getting instructions from the ISI. They were asked to conduct recce of suitable locations in Delhi and Uttar Pradesh for planting IEDs,” Special CP (Special Cell) Neeraj Thakur said.

Special Commissioner of Police (Special Cell) Neeraj Kumar Thakur said the accused have been identified as Jaan Mohammad Shaikh, 47, alias ‘Sameer’, Osama, 22, Moolchand, 47, Zeeshan Qamar, 28, Mohd Abu Bakar, 23, and Mohd Amir Javed, 31. They were arrested in Delhi and Uttar Pradesh.

Osama and Qamar, are Pakistan-trained terror operatives working under the instructions of Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI), the police said.

Police said the alleged terrorists were planning several blasts across the country including Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, and Maharashtra during the upcoming festivals of Ganesh Chaturthi, Navratra, and Ramleela.

The arrests were made during raids at various places in Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, Delhi, and Rajasthan. Those arrested were doing recce of cities ahead of the upcoming festive season, police said, adding, “Navarati and Ram Leela gatherings were their targets.”

The police have also recovered arms, ammunition, explosives, and special pistols that were supposed to be used for targeted killings from their possession.

“Underworld operative Jan Mohd Sheikh along with Moolchand was tasked by Pakistan-based Anees Ibrahim to receive the same consignment in Delhi. We have found that the underworld operative, working at the behest of Pak-ISI, was asked to execute two things — transportation of arms and explosives and terror funding through Hawala channels,” Thakur said.

Thakur said the arrested men have disclosed that they had received sophisticated RDX-based IEDs, grenades, pistols, and cartridges from a sleeper cell operative and that these were sent to UP for safe concealment.
