Maximum City, Maximum Waterlogging: Incessant Rains Bring Mumbai To Halt

Due to heavy rains in Mumbai, there has been water-logging in the Gandhi Market area. Waterlogging was also seen at Hindmata and Parel.

 

Heavy rains that began lashing the maximum city Mumbai on Thursday night, continues to batter it even on Friday morning. Roads were flooded in many low-lying areas, including Wadala, Sion and Gandhi Market. BMC has changed the routes of buses due to heavy rains and waterlogging. Local train services on the Harbor Line have also been affected. The runway of the airport is flooded. However, the information about the impact on the flights has not been revealed yet. Apart from Mumbai, the Meteorological Department has also issued a red alert of rain for Thane and Raigad.

While issuing an alert, the Meteorological Department has said that light to moderate rain and torrential rains may occur at some places in Mumbai and its suburbs in the next 24 hours. Due to heavy rains in Mumbai, there has been water-logging in the Gandhi Market area. Waterlogging was also seen at Hindmata and Parel. The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has also requested people to stay away from the seashore and not roam in waterlogged areas.

According to CPRO of Central Railway, trains are running late by 20-25 minutes near Kurla-Vidyavihar due to heavy rains and waterlogging. Slow line traffic between Kurla-Vidyavihar has been diverted to the fast line. Trains on the Harbor line are also running late by 20-25 minutes. Trans-Harbour Line traffic is, however, running smoothly.

Mumbai has received a total of 1291.8 mm of rain since June 1, which is almost 48% more than normal. In the last one week alone, Mumbai received around 302 mm of rain, which is 77% more than normal.
