A senior Congress leader said that Adhir Ranjan Chaudhary could be removed from his post. The chief whip of the party can also be changed
Ahead of the monsoon session of Parliament, the Congress can change the leader of the parliamentary party in the Lok Sabha. Party president Sonia Gandhi has convened a meeting of the parliamentary strategy group on Wednesday to consider the name of the new leader. There are also inside reports that the Congress is now considering the names of some of the G-23 leaders in the Lok Sabha instead of Adhir Ranjan Chaudhary. The G-23 is a group of disgruntled Congress leaders who wrote a letter to party president Sonia Gandhi last year seeking a change in leadership.
Among those whose names are at the forefront for the new Congress leader in the Lok Sabha are Shashi Tharoor and Manish Tiwari. Apart from this, the names of Gaurav Gogoi, Ravneet Singh Bittu and Uttam Kumar Reddy are also being considered. Shashi Tharoor and Manish Tiwari, are among those who wrote a letter to party president Sonia Gandhi in August last year, demanding a change in leadership. This letter had caused an flutter in the party and the leaders who wrote the letter had to give up many important posts.
A senior Congress leader said that Adhir Ranjan Chaudhary could be removed from his post. The chief whip of the party can also be changed along with the leader of the parliamentary party. A party leader said the name of the new leader would be announced before a meeting of party leaders convened by the Lok Sabha Speaker.
The Congress needs the cooperation of other parties to corner the government on various issues in the monsoon session. Adhir Ranjan Chaudhary and TMC leaders do not go along well. The Congress also wanted to form an alliance with the TMC in the Assembly elections but could not do so due to Chaudhary’s opposition.
