Dr Kafeel Khan was arrested by the UP Special Task Force from Mumbai for making inflammatory statements at the AMU during an anti-CAA Protest.
New Delhi| The wife of Gorakhpur doctor Kafeel Khan on Monday wrote to the chief justice of Allahabad High Court claiming his life is in danger and has requested protection for him.
In her letter, Shabista Khan has claimed that her husband’s life might be in “danger”. Ms Khan said that she met her husband in the Mathura jail where he is currently lodged.
“We went to meet him in Mathura jail. He told me that when he was brought to the jail after being arrested, he was not given food for five days straight. The barrack he is staying in is very small and around 100-150 people have been lodged there. His life might be in danger there,” she said.
“My husband is being mentally tortured in jail and is being subjected to inhuman behaviour,” Shabista wrote in her letter.

She also requested that her husband should be kept away from active criminals and lodged with common prisoners.
He was arrested by the Uttar Pradesh Special Task Force last month from Mumbai after he made inflammatory statements at the Aligarh Muslim University during a protest against the Citizenship (Amendment) Act on December 12, 2019. He was on February 14 charged under the National Security Act (NSA).
A FIR was registered under Section 153-A of the Indian Penal Code for promoting enmity between different groups on grounds of religion.
“Dr Kafeel said through the Citizenship Amendment Act, ‘we are giving employment in our homes to thieves who are stealing in our neighbourhood’,” the FIR said. “Dr Kafeel said in his speech that Mota bhai [Union Home Minister Amit Shah] teaches us to become Hindu or Muslim but not human beings.”
The complaint also alleged that Khan said in his speech that in schools run by the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh, it is taught that “people with beards” are terrorists.
