“Not spoken with in-laws living in Kashmir since 22 days”, says Urmila Matondkar

Mumbai | Actress-turned-politician Urmila Matondkar has criticised the communication clampdown in Jammu and Kashmir after the scrapping of Article 370.

Her husband has not been able to speak to his parents, who live in Kashmir, for the last 22 days, she said.

“The question is not only about abrogating Article 370. It was done in inhuman manner,” Matondkar told reporters.

“My father-in-law and mother-in-law stay there. Both are diabetic, have high blood pressure. Today is the 22nd day, neither me nor my husband have been able to speak to them. We have no clue if they have medicines available at home,” she said.
Urmila Matondkar had joined Congress before the Lok Sabha elections and had unsuccessfully contested from Mumbai North East, losing to BJP’s Gopal Shetty.
Centre revoked Article 370, which gave J&K a special status, on August 5. Immediately after the announcement, restrictions were imposed in the state, even cutting out all communications lines.
Majority of the impositions have been lifted now, except a few sensitive areas, communication lines are gradually being restored.
