This is the UP Chief Minister’s first visit to Delhi since speculations started doing the rounds over turmoil in the BJP state unit.
Amid reports of dissent in Uttar Pradesh, CM Yogi Adityanath will visit Delhi today for meetings with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, BJP chief JP Nadda and Union Home Minister Amit Shah. This is UP Chief Minister’s first visit to Delhi since speculations started doing the rounds over turmoil in the BJP state unit.
Mr Adityanath will be in the national capital for two days, where he is likely to meet with Amit Shah today and PM Modi and Mr Nadda tomorrow.
The CM’s visit comes a day after the BJP scored a high-profile recruit from the Congress, with Jitin Prasada joining the saffron party. Former Union Minister and close aide of Rahul Gandhi, Prasada joined the BJP in the presence of Union Minister Piyush Goyal on Wednesday.
Jiten Prasada wields considerable influence in Central UP and has strong clout among the Brahmin community. Prasada is likely to play a definitive role in correcting the optics of the Yogi Adityanath government, perceived by a section of the state’s Brahmins as being pro-Thakur (Yogi Adityanath’s caste).
The BJP saw another Brahmin entry last week, with AK Sharma, known to be among PM Modi’s close aides, likely to be be given an important role in the state.
With state assembly elections just a year away, the saffron party is currently trying to tackle a crisis of confidence in its ranks against Yogi Adityanath, with quite a few MPs and MLAs going public with their criticism of their own government’s handling of Covid.
