Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar said that some people are saying that Kashmir will open up so we can bring daughters-in-law from Kashmir.
New Delhi| Haryana CM ML Khattar stoked a fresh controversy after the abrogation of Article 370. Speaking at an event in Fatehabad, Khattar said with the abrogation of Article 370, the path is now clear to bring girls from Kashmir for marriage.
Khattar said,
“Haryana was infamous for killings of the girl child. We campaigned against it. The number of girls which was 850 behind every 1000 boys improved to 933 behind every 1000 boys. This is a huge feat. It is a mark of social change. Any elderly or young person will understand this. In the coming days, it may also happen that the number of girls exceeds that of boys.
Once Dhankar Ji (Haryana Agriculture Minister) had said that we will have to bring daughters-in-law from Bihar. Now some people are saying that Kashmir will open up so we can bring daughters-in-law from Kashmir. The matter of jokes is different, but if the ratio is right in society, then the balance will be right.”
Khattar faced a lot of backlash for his statement. Congress leader Rah
“Haryana CM, Khattar’s comment on Kashmiri women is despicable and shows what years of RSS training does to the mind of a weak, insecure and pathetic man.”
Not only, Rahul Gandhi, West Bengal CM and TMC Supremo Mamata Banerjee has also criticised Khattar’s statement. She said, “We, and more so people holding high public office, must restrain ourselves from making insensitive comments about the beloved people of Jammu and Kashmir. These are hurtful, not only for J&K but the entire nation.”
However, Khattar later clarified that his statement is misconstrued.
