New Delhi। The tension across the state of Jammu and Kashmir escalated on Monday as the central govt imposed a slew of curfews. In the biggest development yet, mainstream political leaders from Kashmir- Mehbooba Mufti, Omar Abdullah and Sajjad Lone have been placed under house arrest. Section 144 has been imposed in Srinagar. Mobile internet and landline services have been shut down and public meetings have been banned. Schools and colleges have been shut down and various educational institutions directed their students to vacate hostels
Amarnath Yatra pilgrims asked to “Leave the valley”:
The Centre’s move comes at a time when the state of Jammu and Kashmir is plunged into the uncertainty. On Friday, the J&K government administration asked the tourists and Amarnath Yatra pilgrims to “Leave the valley as soon as possible”. The decision was reportedly taken after a Pakistan-made mine and a sniper rifle along with some IEDs was found along the Amarnath Yatra route.
On Saturday, the Indian army gunned down five to seven BAT soldiers who were allegedly trying to infiltrate the Indian territory at Keran sector in Jammu and Kashmir.
Earlier, the centre had moved 10,000 troops of paramilitary to the valley. A week later it moved more 28,000 troops of CAPF. This triggered the speculations of Centre trying to revoke Article 35 A. Former CM Omar Abdullah and NC chief Farooq Abdullah along with justice retired Masoodi met PM in Delhi last week.
On Sunday, Home Minister Amit Shah conducted a high-level meeting with intelligence chiefs. Not only National Security Advisor Ajit Doval but also Intelligence Bureau chief Arvind Kumar, RAW’s Samant Goel, Union home secretary Rajiv Gauba were present for the meeting. Earlier, sources said that Amit Shah is also planning to visit Kashmir in the net few days after the parliament session.
A cabinet meeting is also underway at Prime Minister’s residence. It is expected that some major decision regarding Kashmir will be taken at this meeting.
