Vijay Sethupathi was awarded with Best Supporting Actor for Super Deluxe, while Pallavi Joshi won Best Supporting Actress for The Tashkent Files.
National Awards for the films released in the year 2019 were announced today in New Delhi after a long delay. Chhichhore, starring the deceased actor Sushant Singh Rajput, won Best Hindi Film. Kangana Ranaut bagged her forth national award for her work in the films Manikarnika and Panga. Marakkar Arabikadalinte Simham, the Malayalam-language film was awarded as the best film, while it also bagged the prize for Best Special Effects. The National Award for Best Actor was shared by Manoj Bajpayee for his performance in Bhonsle and Dhanush for Asuran which also won Best Tamil Film. Vijay Sethupathi was awarded with Best Supporting Actor for Super Deluxe, while Pallavi Joshi won Best Supporting Actress for The Tashkent Files.
Sikkim was held as the most film-friendly state. Based on Netaji Subhash Bose, Gumnaami won Best Bengali Film and Best Adapted Screenplay. Jallikattu, the Oscar entry from India this year, won the award for Best Cinematography. Given out by the Directorate of Film Festivals, the National Awards were not announced last year because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
