The 30-share BSE Sensex closed 10 points below the 35,500-mark after gaining just 0.06 per cent above the previous closing. The broader 50-share NSE Nifty finished with a slender lead and managed to stay above the psychological mark of 10,750.
Equity markets saw choppy trading on Tuesday before finishing on a flat note.
In mid-day trade, the BSE index gained as much as 140 points to hit the intra-day peak of 35,616.14, as European markets revived from the jolt it received from trade war scare.
Among sectoral sub-indices, Nifty FMCG gained more than a per cent while metal, pharma and PSU bank sub-indices bled the most.
