“Indian Democracy Not So Fragile That Single Tweet Will Weaken It”: Manoj Jha Blasts Centre In Rajya Sabha

Mr Jha, taking a jibe at the ruling BJP, said: “The biggest tukde tukde gang is that which does not understand the pain of the people.”

RJD leader and Rajya Sabha MP Manoj Jha today said that India’s democracy will not be weakened by anyone’s tweet. The parliamentarian from Bihar was referring to government’s reaction to tweets by celebrities including international pop icon Rihanna and teen climate activist Greta Thunberg who came out in support of the farmers’ protest against the Centre’s new agriculture reform laws.

During the discussion on President’s address, Mr Jha said: “Our democracy is strong, it will not be weakened by anyone’s tweet.”

The RJD leader blasted the centre’s response to farmer’s protest accusing it of indulging in a ‘monologue’ instead of a ‘dialogue’.

“The government has been flaunting that they offered many things to farmers. I want to emphasise, we need to change the language. The nation doesn’t just mean a map on a piece of paper. The government’s come to build bridges not to break them (relations),” Mr Jha said.

He also came down heavily on the Modi government over its tendency to dub anyone with a contrary opinion as anti-national. He quoted from Macbeth: “Boundless intemperance in nature is a tyranny; it hath been the untimely emptying of the happy throne and fall of many kings.”

Mr Jha, taking a jibe at the ruling BJP, said: “The biggest tukde tukde gang [alleged sympathisers of separatists] is that which does not understand the pain of the people.”

Accusing the government of creating divides, Mr Jha said: “A country is not a map drawn on paper. It is not the army and police and slogans but the building of relations. The government has to build bridges, not walls.”
