Nawaz, Maryam Sharif, file an appeal in Islamabad HC challenging the Avenfield verdict

Pakistan former prime minister Nawaz Sharif, his daughter Maryam Nawaz, and Captain (retd) Safdar Awan on Monday filed an appeal in the Islamabad High Court (IHC) against the verdict in the Avenfield case.

According to a news agency, the appeal highlights the legal flaws in the Avenfield judgment. The appeal even requests the court to declare the accountability court’s verdict null and void and release the three convicts on bail.

Sharif, 68, and his daughter Maryam, 44, were arrested in Lahore on Friday on their arrival from London after an accountability court found them guilty on July 6 over his family’s ownership of four luxury flats in London.

Sharif’s lawyers were in Adiala jail in Rawalpindi on Saturday, to get the legal papers signed. Since there was no time to reach court on Saturday, the appeal was filed in the court today, the last day for filing an appeal against the order that was delivered on July 6 by the Islamabad Accountability Court.

A separate petition against the notification issued by the caretaker government for conducting the trial of Sharif in Adiala jail will also land in the IHC next week, a report said.
