New Delhi | The Congress Party on Monday accused the BJP for raising the Ram Temple issue before the Lok Sabha elections just to polarise views.
Addressing a press conference at the AICC headquarters, Congress leader and former union minister P Chidambaram said, “Well this is a familiar story. Every five years before elections, the BJP tries to polarise views on Ram Mandir”. Chidambaram further added that “Congress party’s position is that the matter is before Supreme Court and everyone should wait until SC decides… I don’t think we should jump the gun.”
Earlier the Supreme Court on Monday adjourned the hearing of the decade-old Ramjanmabhoomi-Babri Masjid title dispute till January 2019. The top court bench including Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi, Justice SK Kaul and Justice M Joseph has postponed the matter till January 2019 to fix the date of hearing in the Ayodhya title suit. Earlier the Supreme Court in September had announced that the hearing of Ayodhya Ram Janmabhoomi-Babri Masjid dispute will begin from October 29.
When asked about the demand of ordinance for the construction of Ram Temple, the Congress leader said, “It (the issue of ordinance) is decided by the executive government. If someone is asking for an ordinance, it is for the Prime Minister to respond, if he will respond at all to the issue.”
