MK Stalin, officially today took over as the DMK chief and addressed his partymen today saying, “My dream is to oppose who give a religious colour to everything. It is not my dream but Tamil Nadu’s dream… We will teach a lesson to the Narendra Modi government”.
Stalin has been managing the party for more than a year during the time when his father had taken ill and had set a close target. He took the charge of the party after three weeks of his father’s demise. He said, “Let’s throw away the corrupt government in Tamil Nadu”.
He took over the headquarter of the DMK in Tamil Nadu today where the red-and-black party flags and drumbeats beckoned the festivities for the first time after M Karunanidhi fell sick more than a month back. After the meeting, Mr Stalin paid a visit to his father’s memorial on the Marina Beach in Chennai to seek his blessings.
Taking a look back at Karunanidhi’s 49 years of leadership, Mr Stalin stated, “I never dreamt that I would lead the party. It is a huge responsibility… I don’t say I would lead. Let’s do it together. Let’s question all including ourselves if we go wrong”.
The DMK which has changed places with AIADMK of Jayalalitha to share the power in the state of Tamil Nadu for many decades has set its vision on national politics. It was over the last couple of months that Stalin has been quite an active part of the opposition that is trying to put together a front to take on the BJP in the national elections that are to be conducted the next year.
He said, “Today’s political situation has come as a grave challenge. Education, art, literature, religion are under attack by authoritative and communal forces. The Union government is trying to destabilise the judiciary, selection of governors. All this has dealt a blow to the secular principles”.
