Karnataka CM Kumaraswamy hints at pre-poll alliance with Congress for 2019

Karnataka Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy on Tuesday stated that a pre-poll alliance with Congress party may be possible for the 2019 Lok Sabha polls. “Agenda is there. Let us see how Congress is going to treat Janata Dal (Secular) (JD-S),” said Kumaraswamy.

The remarks from the JDS leader comes days after he fuelled speculations of growing dissent in the Congress camp by making ”the pain of a coalition government’ remark.

The Chief Minister also stated that they have already endorsed Congress chief Rahul Gandhi as Prime Minister. Kumaraswamy said that the Congress-JD(S) alliance in Karnataka “will continue”.

Speaking at a public event on July 17, an emotional Kumaraswamy broke down as he highlighted pains of leading a coalition government. He said that he could not accept bouquets and garlands for becoming the CM of the state because he is unhappy.

“You are standing with bouquets to wish me as one of your brothers became the Chief Minister and you all are happy, but I’m not. I know the pain of coalition government. I became Vishkanth and swallowed pain of this government,” he stated.
