Days after Shashi Tharoor triggered a controversy by saying that a ‘Hindu Pakistan’ would be created if the Bharatiya Janata Party returned to power in 2019, the Congress leader shocked yet again when he lashed out at the BJP, asking if the party is making efforts to infuse aspects of Taliban in Hinduism.
“They are asking me to go to Pakistan. Who has given them the right to decide that I am not a Hindu like them and I don’t have the right to stay in the country?” he said Tuesday in Thiruvananthapuram. “Have they started a Taliban in Hinduism?” he added.
The Congress leader’s statement came a day after his office in Kerala’s capital Thiruvananthapuram was allegedly attacked by the BJP’s youth wing activists over his “Hindu Pakistan” remark. Tharoor was not present in the office when the incident took place.
Tharoor’s “Hindu Pakistan” comment had drawn massive ire from the BJP, which asked Congress President Rahul Gandhi to apologise for Tharoor’s remarks. Tharoor, in turn, asked the BJP to say on record that they did not want the creation of a Hindu Rashtra.
