PL Punia denies reports of former CM Ajit Jogi joining Congress

Raipur | Congress Chattishgarh in charge PL Punia on Monday denied reports of former Chief Minister Ajit Jogi joining Congress ahead of the assembly elections in the state.

Speaking to media, Punia said that the doors of Congress are closed for Ajit Jogi. He blamed Ajit Jogi and BJP for circulating “this rumour”, saying they are “experts in spreading rumours.”

“In the 2013 naxal attack in Jiram valley in Bastar district, our top leadership in Chhattisgarh was liquidated. Jogi was accused of being behind the attack and these accusations are in public domain. This cannot be forgiven. The doors are closed for him,” “In the 2013 naxal attack in Jiram valley in Bastar district, our top leadership in Chhattisgarh was liquidated. Jogi was accused of being behind the attack and these accusations are in public domain. This cannot be forgiven. The doors are closed for him,” Punia told PTI.

A former aide of Mayawati, Punia claimed that there can be no alliance between Ajit Jogi and the Bahujan Samaj Party. Rather he promoted the idea of an alliance between Congress and BSP. “Allying with Mayawati’s party will improve the poll prospects of the Congress party and there will be discussions on this matter at an ‘appropriate level’,” said Punia.

PL Punia also spoke about Congress President Rahul Gandhi’s discussion on the possibility of a Congress-BSP alliance in the three election-bound states of Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Chhatisgarh in senior leaders meet on Saturday. “The Congress president has said that the division of anti-BJP votes has to be contained and we will have to bring parties with similar ideologies together for this. BSP has a similar ideology. If they come with us, we will definitely be stronger (to take on the BJP),” Mr. Punia said.
