Priyank said that he will not go against party wishes but as a son, he wanted to see his father- Mallikarjun Kharge as the CM of the state.
Adding fuel to the leadership debate in the Congress’ Karnataka Unit, the state’s IT and BT Minister Priyank Kharge said that he wants to see his father become a Chief Minister of the state. Priyank Kharge’s father Mallikarjun Kharge is a Lok Sabha MP and a leader of the opposition in Lok Sabha.
His remarks have come in the light of the long-standing leadership debate in the Karnataka Congress. However, considering Siddaramaiah’s five years quite successful stint which has garnered him quite a popularity in South, Congress is most likely to keep the option of making Mallikarjun Kharge a CM, out.
Priyank Kharge was talking to reporters when he quickly clarified that though he wants to see his father as Karnataka CM, it is only “his dream”. He further said that he will not go against party wishes but as a son, he wanted to see his father as a CM of the state. He said, “We are the party’s loyal soldiers, we will do what our party wishes.”
Priyank Kharge invoking the past incidents said that his father missed the chance to become a CM, but then too he never indulged in any anti-party activities. “Many of his well-wishers like me, across the state, wish to see him as CM,” said Priyank.
However, he said that the party will return to power in the state which is going for polling on May 12 this year. He asserted that the party will fight under “collective leadership” to retain the power.
