“Not An Act Of Terror” Says HC, However, Umar Khalid still In Jail

New Delhi: “The speech delivered by activist Umar Khalid in Maharashtra’s Amravati district in February 2020 was in “bad taste” but that would not make it a terrorist act”, the Delhi High Court said on Monday,  reported by live law.

Khalid was arrested in the riots case on September 14, 2020, and is facing charges under the stringent  Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA) for allegedly hatching a conspiracy to fuel the riots.

Khalid delivered this speech on February 17, 2020. Delhi Police have alleged that it is connected to the riots.

The Delhi Police has opposed the bail plea, saying “The narrative sought to be created by the accused can’t be looked into as his defense at this stage” and the trial court refused to release him by a well-reasoned order that suffered from no illegality.

14.38% of UAPA cases are pending according to data by Business Study.

Satyendra Jain To Be In ED Custody Till June 9th

Shashank

New Delhi: Delhi Health Minister Satyendar Jain, arrested in an alleged money laundering case, has been sent to Enforcement Directorate custody till June 9.

The ED has alleged that the minister was involved in hawala transactions with a Kolkata-based firm in 2015-16.

A hawala system involves two parties transacting money with local agents on their behalf without the funds passing through official channels.

Jain had made two requests to the officials 1)Jain food during the period of custody which has been allowed. However, his other request to visit the Jain temple daily has been rejected.

The AAP national convenor earlier in the day while interacting with the media said the case against his Minister is “completely fake and politically motivated”. Mr. Kejriwal added that the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) is “staunchly honest” and that he would have taken action against Mr. Jain if there were even one percent substance in the case.

Mr. Jain was appointed in charge of   AAP’s Himachal Pradesh unit. Himachal Pradesh is pool-bound later this year.
