Storm Lashes In Delhi, Resulting In Power Outage And Flight Chaos

New Delhi: Due to heavy rain and strong winds early this morning, several parts of Delhi and the surrounding areas lost power. Flight operations at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport were also hampered by the inclement weather, with some airlines advising travellers to check their flight status before heading to the airport.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) said thundershower with moderate rainfall will continue over Delhi and the National Capital Region (NCR) for the “next two hours”.

Passengers should contact the airline involved for current flight information requested the airport authorities.

“Due to bad weather, flight operations at Delhi airport are affected. Passengers are requested to get in touch with the airline concerned for updated flight information,” Delhi Airport tweeted.

Airline companies tweeted that the bad weather in Delhi may affect departures and arrivals at the airport as they requested their passengers to keep a check on their flight status.

In an earlier tweet, the IMD said vulnerable structures and kutcha houses could suffer damages due to the thunderstorm, and that traffic disruptions are likely.

It also predicted thundershower with moderate intensity rain and gusty winds with speeds of 60-90 Km/h would continue to occur over and adjoining areas of entire Delhi and NCR during the next two hours.

Strong winds and heavy rain uprooted trees in parts of Delhi which resulted in roads getting blocked.
