Punjab Police Arrest Delhi BJP Leader, Haryana Cops Stop Them

New Delhi: Punjab Police arrested BJP leader Tajinder Pal Singh Bagga on Friday morning. He was arrested based on a complaint registered with its cybercell. Following outrage by BJP leaders, the issue has snowballed into a dramatic tug of war. Police of three states are now involved in the matter.

The Punjab police team taking Bagga to Mohali was stopped on their way by Haryana cops after the Delhi police registered a kidnapping case on the basis of complaint filed by Bagga’s father. On the way, Haryana Police’s vehicle was stopped and Bagga was escorted. They were stopped at the highway. They were taken to a police station in Kurukshetra. They have called the Delhi police as well.

Aam Aadmi Party has defended his arrest. AAP Leaders are saying that the Punjab police are acting in an unbiased way and the action was taken after  Bagga refused to cooperate with the investigation despite notices were sent to him five times. AAP spokesperson Saurabh Bhardwaj has said they have collected information about Bagga. He uses “obscene, toxic and hateful language” on social media.

The Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) national secretary was booked last month after AAP leader Sunny Singh filed a complaint against him. In the complaint he is alleging that Tajinder Pal Singh Bagga had made provocative statements, spread rumours, and tried to create religious and communal enmity.

Tajinder’s father Pritpal Singh Bagga said that around 10 to 15 cops visited their house and arrested his son. He said, “Around 10-15 Punjab Police cops barged into my home In the morning. They punched me in the face when I tried making a video of the arrest. They took away my phone. At 8:30 am, they dragged Tajinder outside. They didn’t even allow him to wear a proper turban.”

Punjab police have sent a letter to Haryana’s top cop clarifying that it’s not a kidnapping case. He is also claiming that there Haryana police is stopping them unnecessarily. Delhi police claimed they were not given any prior information regarding the arrest.

Delhi police claimed they were not given any prior information regarding the arrest. Punjab police is not accepting that the allegation made, by saying prior intimation was given and one of their teams has been at the Janakpuri police station since last evening.

Bagga was to be taken to a Punjab court. The complaint against him was registered with the cyber cell at Sahibzada Ajit Singh Nagar in Punjab’s Mohali district.

Bagga has been very vocal against Aam Aadmi Party chief Arvind Kejriwal on social media. BJP leaders have protested against the police action saying it’s against freedom of speech.
