Potholes and pathetic road condition killed a woman and her newborn baby

Mumbai: A shocking incident has come in light from Umerkhad district in Maharashtra. On last Sunday woman and her new born child lost their lives due to potholes and poor road condition. The incident happened in Bandi village when 30 year old Natasha Thoke started was in labour pains and her family decided to take her to nearest govt health Centre. Family called for auto riskhaw to go to hospital. But due to poor condition of road between Bandi to Bitergaon town, Natasha delivered her baby in auto itself. But due to the pathetic condition of roads she and her new born baby couldnโ€™t tolerate the vibrations and shocks of the road and both died in auto when they were just 2km away from nearest primary health care Centre.

Locals in this area are really angry over the local authorities. In the past many times they had requested them to repair the same road, many protest had also happened for same purpose. Many request letters were sent to Maharashtra Govtโ€™s PUblic Works Department to repair the same road but no response was given to the demands. And now 30 year old Natasha and her new born baby lost their lives due to the same road. Local villagers are asking the question that does this Govt want to more lives to be ended on this road then they will wake up?

Due to the bad road condition it becomes very difficult and painful for people to reach or have access of primary health care Centre in Umerkehd. Patients donโ€™t get medical treatment on time as due to the potholes and bad roads they canโ€™t reach on time to hospital or medical care centre. After sundayโ€™s incident Locals are of the opinion that if condition of the roads were better Natasha and her baby could have been saved as they would have got medical treatment in time.

As Mamata Banerjee Blames Victim, TMC MP Mahua Moitra Condemns Rape, Murder Of Bengal Teen

Ashmita Chhabria

Kolkata: Trinamool Congress MP Mahua Moitra condemned the alleged rape and murder of Bengal teen. She assured the family that the โ€œfull extent of the law will be implementedโ€ to punish the culprits. Her serious remarks came after her partyโ€™s chief and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee blamed the victim, and questioned questioned: โ€œWas she raped? Was she pregnant or had a love affair?โ€

Moitra said, that parents of the girl are still in shock. โ€œThere is no word to describe the horrible incident. Parents are still in shock. I have assured the family that the full extent of the law would be implemented to bring the perpetrators to justice.โ€

She was at girlโ€™s village and met her family in Nadia district.

She praising police said that they have done a great job. She also lauded them for โ€œshowing promptness to arrest the accusedโ€.

On the issue she had a completely opposite stand from her partyโ€™s chief. Moitra said it does not matter if the girl was in a relationship with the accused. โ€œThe boy is an adult and if he has had a sexual relationship with a minor, then that is rape according to the law and he will be prosecuted accordingly,โ€ she said. Incidentally, the accused is the son of a local TMC leader.

When she was questioned that the political connections of accusedโ€™s father in ruling party might become a blockage in driving justice, Moitra said the party will take every step to punish the accused. โ€œThere is no way he will be shielded,โ€ she said.

A minor girl died after she was allegedly gang-raped at a birthday party in West Bengalโ€™s Nadia district, police said on Sunday. The girlโ€™s family has alleged that the main accused is son of a TMC leader.

The victimโ€™s family alleged that the body was cremated without an autopsy under pressure from a local TMC panchayat leader, whose son Braj Gopal Goala (21) is the prime accused in the case. A police complaint was lodged five days after the incident on April 10.
