Mumbai: NCP chief Sharad Pawar has attacked the Modi-led government over the film The Kashmir Files, saying it is regrettable that those in authority encouraged it.
On Sunday, the former Union minister told NCP workers that attempts are being made to create a religious schism in society.
When fuel prices and inflation reach dangerously high levels, the NCP leader claims, efforts are made to distract people’s attention away from “fair and genuine causes.”
“The film showed how Hindus were tortured…whenever a small community faces a problem how a majority community attacks them. If the majority community is Muslim then a sense of insecurity is experienced in the Hindu community.
“A planned conspiracy is taking place today to create this insecurity. Unfortunately, those who are in power in the country appealed to the people to watch this movie,” Pawar said.
He also expressed concerns over the communal situation in the country.
“The BJP can’t run away from the responsibility for attacks on Kashmiri Pandits. A rift between Hindus and Muslims is being created which is a very worrying thing. Hence, those who believe in protecting the interests of all the sections of society should come together,” Mr Pawar said.
Increasing Communal Clashes In Various States:
Maharshtra
Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) workers played the Hanuman Chalisa and other religious songs on a loudspeaker outside Shiv Sena’s party headquarters in Mumbai on Sunday.
Soon, the police put a stop to it, confiscated the vehicle which was being used to play the devotional songs and detained MNS leader Yashwant Killekar. He was taken to Shivaji Park police station.
Communal clashes broke out in four states – Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Jharkhand and West Bengal – during processions yesterday to mark Ram Navami – the festival celebrating the birth of Hindu God Ram.
Gujarat
Communal clashes broke out in Gujarat during the Ram Navami procession.
In Gujarat, communal clashes took place in Anand district’s Khambhat and Sabarkantha district’s Himmatnagar, news agency PTI reported. Stone pelting and arson was reported at both places and police had to fire teargas shells to control the situation, officials said.
Madhya Pradesh
Parts of Madhya Pradesh’s Khargone were placed under curfew after violence and arson during a Ram Navami procession, a senior official said. Police have been deployed in large numbers to prevent any flare-up.
In Khambhat, Police superintendent Ajeet Rajyan said, “The body of an unidentified man, who appears to be around 65 years old, was recovered from the spot where the two groups clashed during a Ram Navami procession.”
Bengal
In Bengal’s Howrah, policemen have been positioned in large numbers after reports of clashes during a Ram Navami procession in the Shibpur area. Police have said they are taking steps to maintain peace.
