Hyderabad: Telangana Rastra Samithi (TRS) leader Kalvakuntla Kavitha said that his party is set to protect the interests of farmers and will be protesting against the Centre‘s indifferent behavior with regards to paddy procurement. Slamming the government he said that schemes and policies of the central government are a threat to the national food security system.
MLC Kalvakuntla Kavitha, who is in Delhi ahead of a planned protest by the TRS on April 11, slammed the party and said that Telangana-based party will fight for the interest of farmers.
The TRS government in Telangana has been demanding the Centre procure the entire parboiled rice from the state. However, the Centre has been saying it can procure only raw rice and not the parboiled ones which are not consumed largely in India.
The leader also alleged that the Central government was just making an excuse for not procuring parboiled rice from Telangana and accused it of meting out “step-motherly treatment” to the state.
On a light of this the TRS leaders will be sitting on a one-day protest at the Telangana Bhavan in Delhi. They will be protesting against the Centre’s discriminatory policy on rice procurement.
While applauding the efforts and vision of Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao, Kavitha said that it was KCR’s sheer grit that made “barren Telangana into a prosperous and productive land” that is ready to serve the rest of the country.
Kavitha, who is the daughter of Telangana CM KCR, went on to add that no government has prospered at the cost of farmers and reminded the BJP-led Centre what the consequences of ignoring farmers could potentially mean.
The TRS-led protest in Delhi would be attended by state ministers, MPs, MLAs, MLCs and other public representatives, the party tweeted.
The party has put up hoardings in the national capital demanding that there should be one paddy procurement policy in the country.
