Lucknow: The Supreme Court appointed committee has filed its status report in the Lakhimpur Kheri Case. It said that the SIT investigating the case has suggested to cancel the bail granted to prime accused Ashish Mishra twice to the Uttar Pradesh government.
Earlier on March 30, the Supreme Court questioned the Uttar Pradesh administration, for not cancelling Ashish Misra’s bail, as recommended by the special investigation team, in the Lakhimpur Kheri violence case.
Chief Justice of India NV Ramana asked the lawyer appearing for the Uttar Pradesh government, “It appears from the report of the monitoring judge that he had recommended the cancellation of bail and recommended that an application be filed for this. Why was this not done?”
The report also states that the evidence proves that Ashish Misra, son of Union minister Ajay Misra Teni, was present at the spot of the violence that led to death of eight people, and knew about the change in the route taken by UP Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya on October 3, 2021, the day of the incident, to attend a function.
Ashish is accused for running car over farmers who were protesting at Lakhimpur Kheri in Uttar Pradesh. The farmers had been protesting against the three farm laws. Those farm laws later on November 19, 2021 were later repealed by the Centre.
The Uttar Pradesh administration was questioned by the Supreme Court on March 30 for not cancelling the bail of Ashish Misra, the prime accused in the Lakhimpur Kheri violence case, as per the recommendation of the special investigation team.
On October 9, 2021, Ashish Mishra was arrested, in connection with the violence that erupted in Uttar Pradesh’s Lakhimpur Kheri. On October 3, 2021, eight people, including four farmers, were killed in Lakhimpur Kheri in clashes during a farmers’ protest.
After bail being granted by Allahabad high court, he was released from jail. Two bail bonds of Rs. 3 lakh each were submitted by Ashish Misra’s lawyers in regards to his bail orders on February 14.
