Covid Spike In Foreign Countries, Mansukh Mandaviya Tells Officials To Stay Alert

New Delhi: Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya on Wednesday has asked officials to maintain a high-level of alertness, conduct aggressive genome sequencing, and intensify Covid-19 surveillance across the country, as there is a spike reported in Covid from southeast Asia, China, and Europe.

In the meeting chaired by the Minister on Wednesday, he also reviewed the decision of resuming the international flights from March 27; no decision, however, was taken to revoke the earlier order, said officials.

“The health minister chaired the meeting as Covid cases are on the rise in nearby countries such as China, Singapore, Vietnam, and also Europe. He issued three important directions pertaining to Covid management such as intensified surveillance, aggressive genome sequencing, and to maintain high level of alertness in the country,” said a senior official.

Health Secretary Rajesh Bhushan, Dr VK Paul, Member Health NITI Aayog, Dr Randeep Guleria , AIIMS Director, Dr Sujeet Singh, NCDC Chief, ICMR Director-General Dr Balram Bhargava and other senior officials of the health ministry attended the meeting.

More than 4.3 crore covid cases have been reported in India so far. India recorded 2,539 new cases in the last 24 hours. 

In the nationwide vaccination drive 80.80 crores of vaccine doses have been administered. 

The current active case load stands at 30,799.

78.12 crores of total tests have been conducted so far; 7,17,330 tests conducted in the last 24 hours.
