Paytm’s Founder Arrested, Later Granted Bail For Ramming Cop’s Car

New Delhi: Paytm CEO Vijay Shekhar Sharma was arrested by the Delhi Police last month and was released later on bail in case of rash driving. The Paytm founder was allegedly driving a Jaguar Land Rover that rammed the car of District Commissioner of Police of South Delhi, police said.

According the complaint that was filed, the speeding Land Rover hit DCP Benita Mary Jaiker’s car outside Mother International School on February 22. Mr Sharma fled from the scene.

The DCP’s car was being driven by her driver, constable Deepak Kumar. The constable immediately noted down the number of the Land Rover Jeep and thereafter informed the DCP, the police official said.

After a preliminary investigation, the police found out that the car was registered to a company in Gurugram. The police were then informed by the workers in the company that the car is with Vijay Shankar Sharma, who lives in South Delhi.

Delhi Police spokesperson Suman Nalwa confirmed that police had arrested Vijay Shekhar Sharma in a case of rash or negligent driving and later released him on bail.

Earlier this week, the Reserve Bank of India asked Vijay Shekhar Sharma-promoted Paytm Payments Bank to stop opening new accounts amid “material supervisory concerns” observed in the bank.

“Will Cut Power, Water Supply To Military Area If…”: Telangana Minister KTR

Ashmita Chhabria

Hyderabad: Telangana Minister for Municipal Administration and Urban Development KT Rama Rao (KTR) has given a threat of cutting power and drinking water supply in defence areas of Secunderabad cantonment on Saturday.

In the Telengana Assembly, the minister was answering the questions raised by All India Majlis-E-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) MLA Kausar Mohiuddin during the budget session.

KTR alleged that the local military authority was unnecessarily troubling the citizens of Hyderabad. They were closing roads and constructing check dams.

He alleged that several areas had to face issues when it was flooding in 2020, amid the check dam constructed by the military authority.

The minister said that if the local military authority does not back off, they will cut power and drinking water supply of their areas. He said, “Telangana is not a different country. If they don’t understand, we have to take strong steps. If needed, we will cut power and water supplies to them and see whether they will climb down from their stand.”

Criticizing the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI), KTR said that in the areas near Golconda Fort, the department was not allowing the nala work. For obstructing the Nala Development Programme, taken up by the municipal administration in Hyderabad, he blames both – military authority and ASI.

He asked the municipal officials to immediately call meetings with the military authority. He also announced that to protect the interest of locals, the government will go to any extent.

The Bharatiya Janata Party has criticized the statement made by KTR. BJP leader NV Subhash said, “It’s a shocking comment from Telangana municipal minister KTR, who is well educated. KTR doesn’t even respect our Indian Army which is working hard to protect our country. This shows the Telangana government’s stand on how they treat our Army.”

He further questions, “Is TRS trying to remove the military base from Hyderabad? What are they trying to say?”

The leader further added that threatening military authorities is unacceptable, we condemn it and advise the government to hold talks and find a solution.
