Kolkata: The family of student leader Anis Khan has refused all the claims made by West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, stating that she was in constant touch with Anis. During a press conference, Mamata Banerjee had claimed that Anis was in touch with the Trinamool Congress and had helped the party.
However, refusing the claims made by Mamata, his family has said that he had no involvement in TMC.
Anis’s niece Muskan Khatun said: “My uncle had nothing to do with the TMC. I don’t know why the chief minister made the claim. As far as I know, mama had no contact with the TMC. We can’t even go to meet the chief minister now.
He was allegedly thrown off from building’s roof in Amta, Howrah, on February 18. Anis was a social activist and was involved in the anti-Citizenship (Amendment) Act movement.
Salem Khan, Anis’s father said, “Four men came to our house on Friday around 1 am. One of them was in police uniform and had a gun in his hand. They took him to the roof and threw Anis from there.”
Anis’s uncle Jalim Khan, too, claimed that a “government representative” visited the family with an offer. “The same person came again to our home on Monday morning, and then came along with the minister [Pulak Roy] and the MP [Sajda Ahmed]…,” the uncle said .
Suo motu cognizance has been taken by the Calcutta High Court, amid the murder, and has directed the state lawyer Amitesh Banerjee, to take comprehensive instructions from the state administration. The case will be heard on February 24. The West Bengal government has formed a Special Investigation Team to investigate the death of Anis Khan.
The state’s administration has offered a job to Anis’s brother.
