Coronavirus Vaccine Guidelines: Children Below 18 Years, Pregnant Women Won’t Be Given Jabs As of Now

As per the guideline, Coronavirus patients who have been given monoclonal antibodies or plasma will be vaccinated 4 to 8 weeks after recovery.

 

New Delhi| The vaccination drives will start across the country from 16 January. Earlier, the Union Health Ministry has sent vaccination guidelines to all the states and union territories. It says that children below 18 years and pregnant women will not be administered vaccines yet. Women who are feeding their baby are also prohibited from being administered the vaccine. The ministry has said that both the first and second doses of the vaccine will be from the same company. The DCGI has given emergency use approval to two Coronavirus vaccines.

Who Will Be Vaccinated and When?

  • People below 18 years of age
  • If one has to take a shot of vaccine for any other disease, then there should be 14 days difference in the vaccine of Covid vaccine and other diseases.
  • If someone has symptoms of Coronavirus, they will be vaccinated 4 to 8 weeks after their recovery.
  • Corona patients who have been given monoclonal antibodies or plasma will be vaccinated 4 to 8 weeks after recovery.
  • The sick and hospitalized patients, irrespective of any disease, will be given the Covid-19 vaccine only after 4 to 8 weeks of recovery from the disease.

The vaccine will be administered to cardiac, neurological, pulmonary, metabolic, HIV patients. It will also be administered to those who fall in the high-risk category.

PM Modi will launch the vaccination drive

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will launch the Coronavirus Vaccination Program starting in the country from Saturday. On January 16, at 10:30 PM PM Modi will start the vaccination program through video conferencing. Also, he is likely to talk to some people who have got vaccinated. The Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) gave this information on Thursday.

According to the PMO, 3006 session sites of all states and union territories will be involved in the launching program during this period. In every session, 100 people will be vaccinated with the corona vaccine. According to sources, around 3 lakh healthcare workers will be vaccinated on the first day.

States Asked To Keep 10% Vaccine Reserved

The Ministry of Health has advised the States and UTs (Union Territories) that the number of vaccinations should not exceed 100 in each vaccination session. 10% of vaccine reserves should be kept. It has also been said that as the vaccination progresses, the number of centres should be increased.

No Option To Choose Between Vaccines

Two vaccines in the country – Oxford-AstraZeneca’s Covishield and Bharat Biotech’s Covaxin have been approved for emergency use. The government indicated on Tuesday that people involved in the vaccination will not get the option to get the vaccine of their own choice.

30 million people to get the free vaccine in the first phase

In the first phase, one crore healthcare workers and 2 crore frontline workers will be getting vaccines for free. After these, the vaccine will be given to people above 50 years of age and those below the age of 50 years who are suffering from serious diseases. In this way, about 27 crore people will be vaccinated.
