Rajnath Singh said, “Rahul is younger than me in age. I was born from the womb of a peasant mother. I know more about farming than him.”
New Delhi| The farmers’ protest is going on for more than a month now against the three farm laws brought by Modi govt. Farmers’ groups are going to have a sixth round of talks with the government today. Opposition parties and especially Congress leader Rahul Gandhi are attacking the Modi government. Earlier, PM Modi had said that the farmers are being misled by the opposition parties. Now, Defense Minister Rajnath Singh has slammed Rahul Gandhi. Singh invoked his background as a child born in farmers’ family and said that he knows more about farming than Rahul Gandhi. Singh said, “I was born into a farmer’s family. That is why I know more about farming than Rahul Gandhi. Prime Minister Modi was born in the house of the poor.”
In an interview to news agency ANI, Rajnath Singh answered questions about tensions with China, the Love Jihad ordinance and the farmers’ protest. He admitted that talks were continuing with China on the issue of reducing tension in the LAC, but no breakthrough has been achieved so far.
Kisan agitation and Rahul Gandhi
Rahul Gandhi has constantly surrounded the central government on the issue of farmers. In response to a question, Rajnath said, “I was born in a family of farmers. Modi was also born in a poor family. I know more about farming than Rahul Gandhi. Farmers will benefit from the new agricultural laws. But, yes or no mentality can not be negotiated. Farmers should talk clause by clause about every law. Their pain is our pain too.”
He further said, “Rahul is younger than me in age. I was born from the womb of a peasant mother. I know more about farming than them. There is no need to say more than this. Some people are trying to create confusion in the minds of farmers. It is wrong to damage the communication towers in Punjab. The sacrifice of the Sikhs can never be forgotten.”
It is wrong to accuse farmers
Rajnath expressed displeasure over farmers being called Naxalites and Khalistani. He said that farmers are our feeders. “The use of such language against them is utterly wrong. The government is also saddened by the farmers’ movement. It is also a difficult period in terms of economy, farmers can rescue us from it. They have done this before also. But, this must be said that there should be a rational discussion on the issue of farmers,” Rajnath Singh said.
He also added that MSP will continue.
On tension with china
Rajnath also expressed his views on months of tension with China over LAC. Rajnath Singh said that negotiations are going on with China. However, it is also true that the issue is not resolved yet. As of now, the status quo is maintained. “We are talking at diplomatic and military levels. However, success has not been achieved so far. The next round of talks at military level can happen again any time. In these circumstances we cannot reduce military deployment,” he said.
In response to a question on border security, the Defense Minister said that the army is monitoring the situation completely. Rajnath added, “Whoever tries to create trouble on our borders will not be spared. If China is developing the infrastructure on its side, then India is not far behind.”
