Bengaluru | Karnataka Governor Vajubhai Vala has set a deadline to decide the fate of HD Kumaraswamy led Congress-JDS government till 1.30 pm today after the assembly speaker adjourned the house on Thursday.
The governor had earlier conveyed a message to the Assembly speaker suggesting to conduct the trust vote till the end of the day however, the Speaker KR Ramesh Kumar adjourned the house without deciding on the motion of confidence moved by Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy.
Governer Valla’s deadline has come after a group of the BJP delegation met him demanding that the trust vote should be conducted on Thursday itself. However, he refused to the demand and rather wrote to the Chief Minister and Assembly speaker setting up a deadline till 1.30 pm.
Protesting against the adjournment of the house, as a mark of protest the BJP MLAs including former Chief Minister BS Yeddyurappa slept in the state assembly itself overnight.

Governor in his letter with a copy to the speaker wrote , “The proceedings of the House on 18-07-2019 for vote of confidence has been stalled and consequently adjourned without reaching any finality. This cannot go on in a democratic set up governed by the Constitution of India.” He further added that the Chief Minister is expected to maintain the confidence of the house at all times during his tenure.
Earlier addressing the assembly HD Kumaraswamy said that the speaker is being pressurized by some legislators. He said, “I haven’t come just because there is a question on whether I can run a coalition government or not. Events have shown that even the role of the Speaker has been put under jeopardy by some legislators.”
In the last few weeks 16 MLAs — 13 from the Congress and three from JD(S) — have resigned, two independent MLAs S Shankar and H Nagesh have withdrawn their support to the coalition government.
