Rahul Gandhi, in the recently concluded Lok Sabha polls, lost to BJP leader Smriti Irani by more than 50,000 votes. Congress had to face this embarrassing defeat in their own stronghold which was held by the Gandhi family since more than a decade.
The visit comes at a time when Congress is facing its worst leadership crisis, with the party yet to choose a new chief. Gandhi had announced last month that he would step down as Congress president following the party’s humiliating defeat in the Lok Sabha election.
Rahul is now MP from Wayanad in Kerala.
